The Parliament moved to the new building on Tuesday after the Lok Sabha Secretariat designated the new building as the Parliament House of India. The old building will be named ‘Samvidhan Sadhan’. On the first day of proceedings in the new building, the government introduced the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha after PM Narendra Modi appealed to the members to pass the Bill unanimously. The Lower House was adjourned soon after the Bill was tabled in the House. The Rajya Sabha, meanwhile, was adjourned briefly soon after it met in the new building. PM Modi addressed the House after it reconvened. After Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge addressed the House, causing a stir among members with his remarks, the Upper House was adjourned to meet on Wednesday, September 20.
Earlier in the day, a function was organised at the Central Hall to bid farewell to the old Parliament building. In his address, PM Modi urged the members to reaffirm the commitment to make India a developed nation by 2047. He also described the move to the new Parliament building as a new beginning towards a new future. Parliamentarians also gathered outside the old building for a group photograph.

There is a great danger of things going wrong, times are fast changing,” he says, cautioning that “even our own people are becoming moved by new ideologies.”
He says that they are tiring of government by the people, that they want government for the people, and are indifferent if it is by the people.
He further says that “However good the Constitution may be, if those who are implementing it are not good, it will prove to be bad” — repeating the statement twice.
He concludes his address after making a small aside about Prime Minister Modi being willing to speak for three hours, but not about the Manipur issue.
