India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for five districts of Telangana for Sunday (September 8, 2024). Six districts have been forecasted to be under yellow alert.
Odisha, on the other hand, is bracing for a wet spell for the next four days as the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into a depression on Sunday, the IMD said.

The State has experienced heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, with the highest downpour of 81 mm at Khairmal in Boud district, followed by 79 mm at Gosani in Gajapati, the Met office said.
The higher ups issued instructions to the district officials not to let the guard down against inclement weather conditions despite the water level in Munneru showed signs of receding on Sunday evening.
The water level in Munneru hovered around 13.10 feet at 5 p.m. The first warning will be issued when the water level reaches 16 feet and the second warning at 24 feet.
After last week’s floods that wreaked havoc in parts of Khammam town and its neighbouring villages, the authorities directed the officials to remain vigilant to deal with any exigency and prevent loss of life and property.

The official machinery continues to remain on high alert in Khammam and elsewhere in Munneru catchment areas in view of significant inflows into the river from the upstream areas following heavy rains in parts of Mahabubabad district in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
The sudden rise in water level in the river late on Saturday night prompted the authorities to shift people living in some of the residential colonies situated nearby the Munneru river banks in Khammam to the already existing relief camps.
The water level in Munneru hovered around 13.10 feet at 5 p.m. The first warning will be issued when the water level reaches 16 feet and the second warning at 24 feet.

Union Minister Kishan Reddy visits flood-hit areas in Telangana, assures Centre’s help
Telangana BJP president and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday visited flood-hit areas of Khammam district of the state and assured the people that the Narendra Modi government would fully support those affected in every possible way.
He said the Centre has told the Telangana government to first use the Rs 1,345 crore available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to help the flood-hit people. – PTI

Telangana will be given all the support: BJP leader Prakash Reddy
BJP leader Prakash Reddy assured the people of Telangana that all possible financial assistance would be given by the Union Government to the state amid the ongoing flood situation and that the people of the state would be given all the support by the government.
The BJP leader mentioned the visit by the Union Agriculture Minister to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to inspect the flood-affected areas.
“The agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on the instructions of the Prime Minister, along with MoS Home, Bandi Sanjay ji visited the flood affected areas in Khammam district. He also visited Vijayawada, a major city in Andhra Pradesh, which is affected by the floods. Finally yesterday and the day before yesterday, the minister assured total support to both the states.” he said.

29 dead in Telangana due to heavy rains, floods
Twenty nine people lost their lives in the recent heavy rains and flooding in Telangana, a top official said.
State Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari said 29 of the 33 districts in the state have been declared as flood-hit on the basis of rainfall recorded between August 31 and September 3.
She said ₹3 crore each is being released to the flood-hit districts to carry out relief works.
The senior official, who held a teleconference with district Collectors, asked them to submit detailed reports on the losses caused by the heavy rain and flood before Monday afternoon.
The Chief Secretary said ex-gratia would be given to the kin of the flood victims and asked the district Collectors to send details of the 29 people who lost their lives.

Depression likely to bring heavy rain in most parts of Odisha
Odisha is bracing for a wet spell for the next four days as the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into a depression, the IMD said.
The system now lies as a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal, it said in a bulletin.
“It is likely to move nearly northwards and intensify into a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts on September 8. Thereafter, it is likely to move west northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, Jharkhand, and adjoining north Chhattisgarh during subsequent three days,” the IMD said.

According to a weather forecast bulletin issued on Saturday (September 7, 2024), heavy to very heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in the Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem.
And, heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Khammam, Warangal, Hanamkonda.
